I had my birthday 5 days ago.
I received a happy birthday note from HR.
Then it occurred to me that I used to get a $5 dollar certificate on my birthday.
I was reminded of a time early in my career when our annual bonus didn’t come because of a recession.
Back then, I wasn’t happy about it.
Thirty years later I have a much different perspective.
This hasn’t been an easy year for most businesses.
It then occurred to me, given the size of my employer, forgoing that $5 gift would make it possible to pay several employees’ salaries.
That puts that $5 gift in a totally different perspective.
